This is a mixture of artificial greens and real, the hydrangeas are dried. The candelabras were found at a garage sale for $10 for the pair and I had them rewired.

I know I've skipped fall but I started decorating for Christmas on October 22 this year! Handing out candy on Halloween and decorating the tree was certainly interesting. Our home was open for a Christmas Walk to raise money for the developmental disabled.

I can't believe it. I can't believe my little boy is big enough to walk to school, find his locker and stay for 7 hours straight. He woke up feeling very ready for his big day...

Trains, No planes, and Automobiles

My mom and dad celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary by taking all of us to Grand Junction, Colorado via Amtrak. If you have ever ridden Amtrak across our country, you know there are all walks on that train. Some interesting ones decided that Denver felt like home. We, plain janes were happy to get back to Holdrege, Nebraska; population 1,000. But that is for another day...

After our train was running late and going at stop and slow speeds, we decided to bring out the electronics...

We rented cars,

fed the chipmonks at Land's End,

and toured the mountains,

Mom and I had some good laughs on the train. And, sissy, there wasn't a party you missed!

Sissy Lynn sent our weekend of Pinkabella with Betty and Kitt to Stampington who has came out with a new magazine called, "Create with Me". It's a magazine for parents and kids...ideas, and what have you.

While they were looking through the magazine, I was being blessed at Beth Moore. She's a Women's Bible study teacher and a gifted one to say the least. God has given her the ability to teach and reach many, many women.

After running down the hallway of Pershing like a crazy woman, I found seats in the third row! A little embarrassing, but it was so much fun!

She spoke on Knowing Better...

And, for those who do not know her, she has great taste in fashion, as you can see.

I feel so blessed to have time with friends, learning, sharing, growing. It truly was a great time, thanks Mandy, Jen and Shelly for an wonderful weekend!

Embracing Change

Trent will be leaving Kearney High as an Assistant Principal and starting a new journey with NSEA. We are thankful that we do not have to relocate. The next year will have challenges financially but the second year we will be fine. So, budget cuts at our house. Creative ways to cut back will have to be thought of. I would love to be able to create from home and make up the difference but realize that 'that dream' may not be as close to coming true as what I hope. I am looking forward to finding a job that will work with our new family schedule. Trent will be able to walk us for Bennett's first day of school! We are thankful for a more family time. Here is the big preschooler graduate...

I have started my own challenge about 3 weeks ago...you see...I LOVE fashion and I LOVE a bargain. I have a wardrobe that consists of lots of bargains- be it brand new shoes for .50 cents--like these...

but, I'm challenging my self to wear a different outfit for a year...shopping only from my closet or making something new to wear from my fabric stash...did I mention that I also LOVE fabric?

What ideas do you have for me? Note: I do know coupons are a good way to save. I carry them in my purse and then always forget to use them! Any thoughts on a job?

Trent and I celebrated our 7th year wedding anniversary this past weekend.

We had a lovely time strolling around the Old Market.

I love seeing our wedding flower on every anniversary. This year, they were in full bloom.

I took this picture because my great grandmother Sigrid would be having a heart attack knowing that peonies are being sold at this price! She used to have a yard full of them and sell them for Memorial Day. (When my sister and I were younger, my dad thought it would be a good idea for a money maker for my sister and I...we didn't sell one!)

Look closely...this is the wall you see entering into the Goodwill at the Market. Items attached to the wall and then spray painted. Funky and a good way to use junk!

Lunch, ice cream and then went to see Wicked, which was unbelievable!

How do you wear your trench coat?

This coat is one of my favorite purchases of the year. I wore this everyday on vacation in San Diego in March. It was perfect for the beach and downtown. I can wear it casual or with the ruffles, dress it up.

A wise mamma built her nest under the eave of our house, on top of a gutter, and bless her heart, she built that nest right outside our dining room window. It has been such a joy to see her gather the long pieces of grass, she was so diligent and efficient while making her nest her home.

The pictures are blurry because I took them through the window. If you look carefully, you can see a worm gathered up in her mouth.

I bought this fabric at Hobby Lobby over a year ago when it was 80% off. Not knowing what I would do with it, it sat in a drawer, but I knew it went well in my house so I bought it. I had a friend stop by and she suggested I add it to my $3.74 for the pair curtains from Target...man I love a bargain!

Gives a little more life to my living room!

The Vintage Bling Charm Necklace Swap

Last year, I participated in the vintage bling charm bracelet swap, hosted by Cheryl and Sandy from CA, at Silver Bella. I absolutely LOVE my bracelet but I have worn it more as a necklace than a bracelet. I have received so many lovely comments each time I wear it. My sissy Lynn didn't get in the swap last year and without a Silver Bella this year, we think it's time for some happy thoughts! We are looking for 23 gals who love the bling! More details coming...leave a comment if you would like to be a part of this amazing swap!

DETAILS:

For those of you who may be on the fence, this may help. Here's what you will need to participate in this amazing swap:

*20 pieces of silver looking vintage rhinestone pieces. They do not have to be perfect. It's okay to have some of the stones missing. All shapes and sizes!

*Remove any backs of earrings, pins, other things that need to go so the bail fits nicely.

*The pieces need to be at least 1 inch in size and no larger than 2 inches.

*Glue (E6000 works great) or solder (if you are comfortable with soldering) a jewelry bail on the back of the piece. Hobby Lobby sells glue on jewelry bails that work awesome. A bail is a piece that has a loop on it so you can add a jump ring to the charm.

*Send your pieces and a chain, your desired length, to Lynn and I by June 1. This gives everyone a chance to be on the hunt for the bling! We will assemble your necklaces and hopefully have them out by mid-June. NOTE: The necklace chain length is your preference but be sure to have a length that is long enough for 20 charms.

A few years ago, I made this...

It works great as a small camera bag, throw in a coin purse, keys, and you are hands free.

I found a vintage binocular case at Salvation Army, one of those with the plastic handles but are nice and soft inside. They are so easy to make cute if you can find them. Paste tickets or glue on treasures from a special trip.

Silver Bella Catch Up

I've been catching up on past projects...you know the ones that you start and put away and then hope to finish later? At Silver Bella last year, our opening nite class was taught by the Silver Bella Queen, Teresa.

When I went to finish it last week, I knew I wanted to change what I had started.

I pulled out some black and whites of the kids and from our wedding, added a picture of the church where we were wed, the hymn title (Great Is Thy Faithfulness) from a hymn that we sang,

added a few of this and that, and then I remembered I had dried peony petals from my bouquet. I found the book they had been hiding in for almost 7 years! Those poor petals have survived 3 moves and I finally found them a home.

I modge podged them on, sprayed them with glitter to give it a little shine and one more project done!

(Soon to come, no more blurry close ups! I'm researching a new camera! Any suggestions?)

So.....who's looking forward to registration on April 1 for Silver Bella? YIPPPEE!

These photos are from one of my early posts...seems like a long time ago. The idea of these aprons came to me when my sister and I were preparing for our first show.

We needed something to put our cash in and be hands free.

I made an apron from mini skirts and we had a lot of positive feedback about our little aprons.

They really are a ton of fun to make and wear. So easy, so inexpensive, and can put a little funk into an outfit.

So, why am I pulling these out of the early days? Because the cute Jenny Doh has this thing going on and I thought I would reminisce a little since it is my 100th post! Thanks for all your comments and your thoughts. I never thought I would last this long in blog world!

has hit our home. First Bennett, then Kitt, now mama. I've been resting with my lap top for 2 hours. For anyone that knows me, knows that I cannot sit still for 5 minutes. But I have to say, I've been laying here, playing on the computer, visiting blogs, catching up on email, looking at the calendar and didn't know that 2 hours had flown by. The kids are playing quietly. I hope to be feeling better soon. I did come across a Silver Bella friend, Cherie Wilson that has shared her Heart Art Saves story and it is beautiful...read more here.

My Happy Kitchen

After 18 months, I'm able to put the finishing touches on my kitchen. I found this door knob at Anthro last spring 75% off. My dad worked a month (not joking) on getting the right pieces so it would work in the door that was installed. I LOVE it! If any of you know my dad, you know he really is the best at making things work for me!

And, for a Christmas gift, the ornament below is handmade from my dear friend, Melissa. She used metal and leather. I'm loving, LOVING this above my sink where I can look at it everyday!

And, look how my curtains match my doorknob! I found the vintage fabric at my favorite store in Overton and didn't realize how much it matched until my dad had installed the doorknob.

We are having a snow day today...I think we have had a foot and there appears to be more coming! Check out here to see what I've been creating!

Ringing in the New Year...

with a vintage lace ring!

Here's what you do...

Step 1...start with a ring base. I had one on hand but they can be purchased at Hobby Lobby.

Step 2....thread a needle with embroidery thread and sew up and down through the vintage lace...

Step 3....pull the tread to make a circle (looks like a flower) with the lace...

Step 4...add a button or some bling...

Step 5...use E6000 glue to glue lace to ring base and proudly ring in the New Year!

I used wider lace and the flower turned out large. If you want a smaller flower use smaller lace!

Happy New Year!

I'm already planning for the year....thinking about registration for Silver Bella in April, vacations in July, Bennett starting Kindergarten in August. Before I get too far...I'm thankful to be putting 2010 away. Not that it has been a terrible year, just some ups and downs. We have grown and some good, good things have happened. But, I can't be honest if I didn't say some challenges came last spring that brought on growing pains.

And now, I'm thankful to be starting a fresh, new year. Christmas is now past......

Silver Bella is still on my mind, even after putting away the elf tree I made....

I'm already thinking I should go upstairs and get out the Valentine's Day things...and I just put away Christmas this morning!

I'm feeling a little stuck as to what I should create next...hoping it will come to me sooner than later.

I took a pair of vintage cowgirl boots and decided to cut them up and I made myself a new leather handbag!

Last year I took a class, taught by the lovely Charlotte Lyons, on how to make hats out of wool sweaters and now, I can't stop! I've made scarves, wraps, loops, and all sorts...

I love cutting up and making new! These scarves are headed for Indiana, some will stay and some will be on my new etsy store and a new blog I'm working on, with help from a friend....stay tuned!

Here's my next project:

It's a 1x size, I'm a sm/med...but I love the idea of making another sweater with flowers so I'm off to the sewing machine.

I added the flower and then remembered this adorable orange GAP jacket I had in my closet that I bought second hand. Can't wait to wear this!

Packing for Silver Bella

I'm ready! As I was cleaning out my closet, looking for things to wear in Omaha, I picked up the new Anthro Nov. edition in the mail. Man oh man I love their stuff. After drooling, I was inspired to make a few things to wear to Silver Bella!

And, here's what I made while digging through my closet...

This used to be a cardigan. I cut off the bottom and added it around the neck to make the sweater come higher. Then, I sewed it shut so I have to put the sweater on over my head. I kept the belt, added a ruffle like hem, a mother of pearl button, and went to Goodwill to find a $2 white sweater to use for the petals. I had the green fabric to make the leaves thanks to a hat making time with my wonderful friend Melissa. I know this sounds prideful, but I can't wait to wear it!

Then, I decided I would see what was on Anthro's website and came across some scarves, loops, and so many delicious things!

Here's what I made after looking at their accessories...

This little green scarf took less than 30 minutes!

(I'm in love with this burnt orange color.)

I used a silver skirt I bought at Old Navy for $1 and found this beautiful crochet sweater at Goodwill for $3.25. I had the seam binding from my stash...so much fun...so inexpensive!

So, today, I'm loving the sunshine and the almost 80 degree weather, but realizing that it's way to hot to wear any today and am secretly hoping it gets cold just to wear my new things!

That's how long it's been since I've looked at my blog! Ug. I've been taking Bennett to preschool M-W-F and Kitt to preschool on T-Th. I pick up Bea and Elliott everyday after school. Lots of time in the Honda van, not a lot of time at home!

I've been making my scarves and hats, selling them too! I have failed to take any pictures! Ug again.

I've turned a year older...37.

Here's where I've been this week, hanging out, enjoying the noises the creek makes, working on swaps for Silver Bella, watching the kids throw pine cones into the water.

The first day we went to the Rodeo parade in Sheridan. Kitt was a little "canky" as she calls it...

She found happiness by taking pictures and I have to say, they are so cute! I love seeing what she sees...

My night in the ER...

I woke up at 1:10 a.m. last Sunday in Omaha while staying at my in-laws, used the restroom and found myself immediately bent over in PAIN on my right side. I thought for sure it was my appendix. I started to remember my sister having pain like this when we were young. She had her appendix out and blamed it on eating popcorn the night before. I didn't have any popcorn so I just didn't know what this pain was from. It hurt. Not like labor pains hurt, but it hurt. I tried to lay down and pretend I wasn't really having any pain, like, if I just denied it, it would go away. Didn't go AWAY. More pain.

I woke up Trent and we went to Methodist in Omaha, just up the street from where Trent's parents live. They took a urine sample and told me I wasn't pregnant. They drew blood and told me the pain wasn't from kidney stones. PRAISE the Lord for that...I didn't even want to think about such a thing as kidney stones. Trent was such a dear. We waited a little longer. They gave me a shot for the pain...yea! That helped and made me sleepy. They injected a dye into my system and sent me through the ct scanner thing...no appendicitis attack...okay, no surgery. (By the way, if you ever have this done, when they tell you it will feel like you wet your pants, it REALLY feels like you wet your pants). So, I had an ultrasound done and they found a polyp in my gall bladder. I looked this up on the internet last night and found out that polyps can be found in 5% of the population and are more common in men than women. So glad I'm normal...

I'm 36 years old, eat healthy, feel pretty good most days and up until now, have felt like I'm 18. We went home around 5:30 a.m. Long night or short, any way you want to look at it, I left feeling strange. For the first time, I really feel old, like, my body will not last forever. I don't like this feeling and to tell you the truth, it's a little depressing. I guess the next thing will be to have my gall bladder out...no big deal. I'm thankful that it's not cancer or something crazy, but, this has me thinking.

I'm putting my paint brush down. I didn't keep track of how many gallons of paint but I did this all in less than 365 days, 344 to be exact! I can't believe it. I'm done. I need to finish painting 2 wooden chairs for Bennett's room and Kitt's bed, and a few touch ups, but, I'm done for now!

wonder about? I'm listening to the sound of thunder right this very moment. Love it. I wonder how God makes it. Trent tells the kids that God is rearranging his furniture and He is just making noise.

I wish I knew many things right now. We can't see what is going on, but know something is. We know the end is going to be beautiful but right now it seems ugly. It feels ugly. I don't like ugly. I want beautiful. Sigh. I like things planned out accordingly. I wonder why but I am still trusting in the bigger picture.

On a lighter note, I wonder why some people have been given the ability to make me laugh so hard I cry. Trent and I went to Date Night last night. Very funny and very naughty in parts. Some of the lines...I don't want to recommend it because of the naughty parts but man oh man....funny.

I wonder how many English words my cat actually understands.

I wonder what it would be like to fly to the moon.

I wonder how long I have with those I love and if I'm missing my opportunity to be with them this very second.

I wonder how God can completely love me in spite of who I am, yet I know He does.

I wonder what I should be doing with my life.

I wonder if I could do a back handspring again....maybe shouldn't think too hard about this one or I may end up in the ER.

Capitol Hill

Trent and I went to DC last Wednesday. Trent received the award for State Assistant Principal of the Year, along with other recipients from the 50 states. I'm so proud of him. Here is with his medal in front of the Capitol with friend and Congressman Adrian Smith...

With his kindness, we were fortunate to tour the Capitol in a not so average way...

Here we are on the balcony of the Capitol, overlooking the Mall. We went to other sites but this was our favorite day.

We also were able to visit with a friend of mine, Miss Erin. I love this girl...she brilliant, kind and hasn't changed a bit. I love friendships that you can just pick up where you left off. Friendships like this are meant to be treasured.

I woke up in the middle of the night with an idea to do a leather sampler. I have some leather scraps around since I love the feel, smell, look...and I also love all the samplers that people in art blog world are creating. So, here's what I have begun.

The leather flower came from a belt and the piece that I stitched it to is from a boot that I picked up at a yard sale...I'm stitching one new thing per day until it is packed with goodies!

Neither did I but my precious boy thinks so. We have a costume box in the basement and my sister adds things to it so we really have a nice collection to choose from. Bennett dug in the box and put together this outfit while I was painting upstairs. He came up and said, "Look Mommy, I'm Luke Skywalker!" I nearly died laughing while trying to hold it together at the same time and then grabbed my camera before he was off shooting his pretend enemies.

I'm not sure what is underneath the pink poodle skirt but I think it could be a chest shield for a pirate...oh if George Lucas could see this I know it could be in his next sci fi.

He wanted to display his hands too, again, no idea what these are...

Here's Kitt having fun too! She's made up a game called "Fellow". Anyone who knows anything about this please fill me in...these kids have quite the imagination!

Trip to the Cousins

My sister and I have a secret shopping place. We call it the "cousins" so no one else finds it. It's really called Tiede's and they are not online so I guess that makes it okay for me to share...hee hee.

What are you doing for Valentine's Day? Trent and I are going to a dinner at church. I gave up a volleyball game so I hate to put the pressure on our pastor but, it better be worth it! Sounds crazy, I know. I just don't like missing my volleyball.

(This is my first paper banner I attempted on my own. My sister inspired me from all the paper goodies she makes. I used an old lace tablecloth for the lace behind the letters. It gave it some texture.)

How are your resolutions going?

No yoga or bootcamp here. The kitchen is coming along nicely though. I am ready to start in on the dining room so I have 4 days left in the kitchen (minus the cupboard doors). They aren't here yet so I'm not counting those.

I've been cleaning out my photos on my computer.

Finding some pictures that I haven't seen yet...

Trashing those that I don't like or need and wondering if I should print out those that I do like.

I'm in a dilemma.

I haven't printed pictures and put them in an album since last summer.

So, do I catch up or go all tech? What are you doing with your pictures?

Do you save them on a CD? On a memory disk thing? Do you print? Any ideas?

January 12...how are things going with your new things for the new year?

I'm still painting in the kitchen and I have the sweatshirt to prove it!

Esther started this morning, wonderful. No yoga or bootcamp but I am sitting up straighter, shoulders back.

I made a few coffee cuffs and swarfs to take down to a store here in town but didn't get photos all of them. The little coffee cuffs are so fun and easy to make. Great gifts to give with coffee gift cards.

Volleyball started. I have to tell you all how nice my sister Lynn is. She stepped in as our much needed 5th player on Sunday. I know I owe her big time but it was worth it.

Stew is in the crockpot for supper, laundry calls. Oh the romantic life I live!

Almost ten years ago I started working at the University of Nebraska at Kearney as a Coordinator of University Activities. I can't believe it has been 10 years! While I was there, I met a sweet, freshman girl named Sylvia from Slovakia. She was working at Taco Bell and had the cutest accent. Her english was outstanding and she became one of the hardest working students I had ever met. She volunteered for everything, studied hard and became a worker at the student union front desk. She also was selected as one of the Chancellor's Ambassadors that hosted numerous dignitaries on campus. She's just the kind of girl that you want as a friend. Kind, funny, and you just want happy things for her. And, happy things have happened. I really wished I could have been there but the good news is she married a guy from Hazard, Nebraska so I will be seeing her in the summer!

The dress was made in Slovakia and is just about the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen.

A jacket was made to go with the dress. Stunning, don't ya think?

New Ideas in 2010

Here are the kiddos on Chirstmas Eve. Lynn and her family was able to come during the snowstorm. It is such a blessing to have them 2 and a half blocks away!

Happy New Year. I love thinking about new things. I've thought about a few. Here they are:

I'm preparing gluten free scalloped potatoes for dinner, so far, not going as well as hoped. Need to experiment more with gluten free cooking in 2010.

Paint more...like having the kitchen done by January 31, dining room done by Febuary 28, bathroom and foyer done by March 31, hallway done by May 31, and the kids rooms finished by August 1. I better get busy. I can see how it all will look when it is done, so now I just need to get it done!

Thinking about yoga. I had lunch with a great friend who is actually taller than she was in high school. She said that yoga has stretched her spine. This is a great new thing for me to think about. My shoulders could use some good stretching.

Thinking about bootcamp. Need to find out more but the thought of getting in shape is drawing me to it.

Thinking I may need to be disciplined to blog once a week. Everyday is too much for this girl. The 3 and 4 year olds in the house are much too important. So, if I can at least blog once a week, I'll feel good if I blog more than that.

Last week I held a free class to show my friends from my Bible study how to make a hat and scarf from a sweater.

For those who have read the book or seen the movie, you may be smiling right now. My great friend Megan might be laughing. Me too. She's the best kind of friend one could have, she totally gets it. She's also a great friend for sitting with me at a show for hours on Saturday.

We had a wonderful time trying to figure out how to teach people to 'get it'...not sure we came up with anything but we did happen to see a few of those razzle dazzle Christmas sweaters! I'm still laughing.

is the longest time of year!

December is a month full of love and time with family. For us, it kicks off with my dad's birthday. I'm a lucky girl to have such a wonderful dad. Happy Birthday!

Tomorrow is sweet Betty's birthday. I can't believe she will be six.

Trent's birthday is the 16th. More parties, more fun for the month of December!

It also begins counting down to Christmas and advent times at night. We love eating a piece of candy on this candy streamer until we reach the bell. My mom made one for me when I was little and when I was in college, I actually asked her to bring it to me!

We also love the license plate numbers to add to our garland.

Woke up this morning after a sad day yesterday with this song playing on the radio. Hallelujahs by Chris Rice. I hadn't heard it before and found it on Itunes. It came out in 1997. Search it and listen if you haven't heard it before.

Makes me think about things...

Creation still goes on by the Almighty Creator and how can we not sing Hallelujahs for what He has created.

Thank goodness this life is just temporary and there is something better that is beyond this life. I wish I felt some of that during this time of waiting and searching...but I trust it will come. And I hang on to Hope.

I have been working like a fool getting ready for a show that will be held the first Saturday in November. I've been finishing things, making and finishing new things, and starting new things in hopes of finishing them before the show. All this said, I haven't been taking pictures of anything. I priced them with cute little tags and put them in totes so they are ready to go. When I stop making something new in hopes to finish before the show, I'll take pictures. Diana and I had such a great time creating this little lovely for her wedding reception. She had found one and we created one of our own.

She ran off and got married last February but had a wedding reception last week. Isn't this beautiful? It's a hair piece and super easy to make. The reception was in a lighted tent and it was gorgeous everything.

And now, I see them everywhere, and I get the impression women aren't using them any more, for they really are aplenty.After bringing one home from salvation armani and saying to my sissy, there has to be something we can do with this, she suggested a picture frame. Brilliant!

Summer Time Fun- Birthdays, and Thomas

Where does the time go? My little ones turned 4 and 3 this summer. Bennett's big 4th birthday was held at Trails and Rails, our local train museum. He was in heaven. When told that God has a plan for his life, he says, "yes, an engineer".

Kitt's party was held in the new house. Her cousin and brother were in charge of the decorations. She enjoyed the cake as the rest of us did. A big birthday hit was the princess cell phone...the conversations she has on it are hilarious!

I had to show this...check out the ladybug boots! This was a few days before we left for China.

Two days after we closed on our old home, we ventured to see Thomas in Fremont. We didn't tell the kids where we were going and they were so surprised to see Thomas made it from Sodor. The next day we left for Story, Wyoming for a few relaxing days at the cabin. More on the cabin later.

Summer is still here until September 20, but I think mentally, we are accepting, it is fall. Bennett starts preschool in a week and a half.

Our Home

We have just begun settling into our new bungalow.

We were able to walk in the doors on July 1 and my sister and I immediately jumped into making it more ours. I couldn't walk out of one room without tearing off some of the wall paper! We have painted 4 closets, 5 rooms, and with the help of my talented Uncle, have the upstairs bathroom looking better than ever. The electrician is coming tomorrow to install new light fixtures and make more outlets for us in the kitchen, bathroom and basement. More before and after photos will come as we slowly make each room more of ours. We are thrilled to have moved but it is a chore! I am trying to take one day at a time. There are moments of feeling overwhelmed that come more too often than not.

We had a family of six join us this spring. The parents made a lovely nest behind our porch swing and four babies were hatched. Last Saturday, all four were in the nest and by Monday, only one remaining, waiting for the nerve to fly away. I saw him being fed (maybe for the last time), the family was gone the next day.

I thought I would share some pictures of the bags that I made this past week. The "boots" bag I made almost 2 years ago from a pair of cowboy boots. Solid Gold is so fun, makes me want to wear a black dress and go out for dinner. I hope you enjoy these!

Art Sculpture Cross

For Easter, our church presented a challenge of creating a sculpture of a cross. I used license plates from Nebraska and Michigan and mounted them to a rugged board with old nails. The map is a city map of Jerusalem. The radio face has a knob that plays "In Christ Alone" when turned (thanks goes to my dad for helping me figure that one out).
